The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), founded in 1963, is also known as Indian Institute of Global Management. In 2002, it became a Deemed University. The esteemed autonomous institution helps professionals in the country’s foreign trade management by analyzing and disseminating data. It further aims at increasing exports by conducting research and developing human resources. There are some future roles as visualized by the institute. It acts as an inspiration for new ideas that lead to the internationalization of the Indian economy. One of them is providing training and research-based consultancies to students, government, and the corporate sector involved in international businesses.
The institute offers several programmes for interested candidates. First one is a two-year MBA course in international business, whose institutes are present in New Delhi, Kolkata and Dar-es-Salaam. The next is a three-year part-time international business course in MBA. The institutes are present in Kolkata and New Delhi. Executive Master’s Program in International Business, and Certificate program in Export Management are some of the other courses offered by IIFT, New Delhi.
Applicants need to know the IIFT exam thoroughly before attempting it. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is the conducting body of the exam. The mode of the IIFT exam is a computer-based test (CBT). The application process is online. Students have to pay an application fee of two thousand five hundred rupees. The test duration is two hours, and the total number of questions is 110 (based on last year number). The maximum score is 300, out of which a candidate must score 115 to 120 marks (based on previous year’s cut off). The cut-offs may vary each year, depending on various factors such as difficulty and length of the paper. The minimum cut-off percentile for getting shortlisted in the institute is 95%.
The exam has four sections: Quantitative Analysis, Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness. The exam has a varying scoring pattern of 1.5 to 3 marks for each correct answer. One-third of the total marks are allotted for each wrong answer. The difficulty level of the IIFT Admission Test is very high, similar to that of XAT and CAT. Let us dive deeper and understand the scoring pattern of IIFT 2021 exam in detail.
The Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability section consists of 35 questions of three marks each, with an easy to moderate difficulty. The Quantitative Analysis section has 25 questions, which are also three marks each. This section has a difficulty level of moderate to difficult. There are 30 questions in the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section, each question being three marks. Its difficulty level ranges from moderate to difficult. The last and most important section is the General Awareness section, which contains 20 questions of 1.5 marks each. The General Awareness section plays a huge role in securing a high percentile, because it is the easiest section. Exams like IIFT admission tests tend to get lengthy. The paper might contain tricky questions which need a certain amount of practice beforehand.
The most important factor determining the success of any entrance exam is will power and practice. A detailed analysis of the exam is always advantageous. Students should also practice previous year question papers to get acquainted with the difficulty level of the exam. It also helps with time management while solving the question paper. These are present on numerous ed-tech sites such as CollegeDekho, Embibe, Aglasem, etc. As stated earlier, different sections have different cut-offs. Students need to clear all the sectional cut-offs, and also clear the overall cut-offs. Many sites such as CollegeDekho offer a detailed analysis of the section-wise cut-off. Students should go through these sites to understand and interpret their ability to obtain a maximum score.
